Do What Is Right, Not What Is Easy

I read this quote a few weeks ago, and it really resonated with me. It might cause questions to arise in your mind (it did in mine) – how do I define what is “right?” Is it wrong to do something because it’s easy? 

As a person who tries to live their life according to the Bible, my definition of “right” comes from the pages of Scripture. As I thought about what the Bible says is “right,” these verses came to my mind:

Philippians 2:4 “Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.”
It’s easy to focus on myself and my comfort. It’s right to be focused on others and their comfort.

Colossians 3:23 “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.”
It’s easy to do just enough to get by. It’s right to give every task my very best.

Ephesians 4:32 “Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.”
It’s easy to treat people the way they treat me. It’s right to treat people the way God treats me.

Philippians 4:6 “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.”
It’s easy to worry. It’s right to pray about the things that burden my heart.

Do what is right, not what is easy!
