I had so much fun putting this tablescape together for today’s post! This year I really wanted to decorate my tree with lots of red, gold and burlap…but the Christmas decor I’ve collected over the past several years is red, turquoise and silver. Don’t get me wrong, I love my tree – but it was fun to branch out a little bit with a different look in the dining room! Setting a pretty table is a fun way to temporarily introduce a different Christmas look without having to purchase new decorations for the whole house!
For this tablescape, I used my Grandmother’s china, my Nana’s green bowls and the glasses my husband’s grandfather collected from Arby’s in the 80’s. How fun is that? I adore using things that belonged to people we love.

I made place cards with gift tags I picked up last year at Target after Christmas, glammed up with a little piece of gold washi tape. If I was serving a meal using these place cards, I would take them off before I filled the glasses and just lay them by each plate. It might be a little hard to drink with that tag dangling from the glass. 🙂
My tablecloth was a wedding gift – it is from the BH&G line at Walmart. The burlap runner came from Target’s One Spot this fall. I used a tiered plate, extra mini ornaments (you might recognize the gold ones from my front door) and garland for the simple and not-too-high centerpiece.
Halfway through the photo shoot, I remembered the vintage green dishes hiding in my cupboard. That’s why they keep appearing and disappearing. 🙂
I wasn’t expecting company the day I took these pictures. If I have time, I like to do a practice run far in advance of a dinner party. It helps me know exactly what I want (the table didn’t start out looking like this!) and saves so much time the day I’m expecting company. We did eat supper with the table set just like this later on that day. I don’t ever feel the need to save special things for company!

Beautiful place settings and the dishes are gorgeous. I always wanted to collect a set of holiday dinnerware and never got around to spending the money. So one year, my brother-in-law got married and we began a holiday set for them. Each year we would add to it too. Always wonder if they still use it. Thanks for sharing at Christmas in July.

So pretty, Whitney! Are those green glass dessert dishes depression glass? Love them. It is so nifty how you are using things that belonged to family in this setting. And I think I might have that same exact Christmas china. Similar, anyway. I seldom use it because I only have four place settings, while my ironstone Christmas/winter dishes have eight. Oh, how badly I need to reorganize my cabinets so I have these things accessible!
And I see that I need to visit your archives now and look at previous Christmas tablescapes! Thanks for sharing your talents and creativity with all of us!

I’m not sure if they are depression glass -I don’t think so. I always re-arrange my cupboards for December so that the Christmas dishes are at my fingertips. It’s a little bit of work but so worth it! We love using those Christmas dishes all month long!

Very pretty Whitney. My late MIL had those glasses too! Lots of her Christmas things have just vanished it seems. I would have loved those. I use lime green and red in my dining room. I stole that idea from Rhoda at Southern Hospitality. On today’s blog I explain that I am not too good at coming up with my own ideas but I am great at copying other’s!!:)
