A few weeks ago my Mom wrote a post encouraging her readers to do something special for their marriage each week. She said,
“This is my way to help maintain my marriage…maintenance is simply providing care and upkeep. Just like anything else, if a marriage isn’t cared for, it will fall apart.
Having a goal of posting a marriage picture each Monday will prompt me to be active in my care of making my relationship with my husband the best it can be, by God’s grace. In a day when marriage is being redefined and changed from God’s original plan, I think it’s essential that we set good examples of a godly marriage – a man and a woman who love God and one another for life.“
It can be easy to just coast through married life, especially when life is busy. He knows you love him, you know he loves you, so you’re good. Right? Maybe not. Proverbs 14:1 says, “The wisest of women builds her house, but folly with her own hand tears it down.” Just as it takes menu plans and cleaning schedules to keep the house maintained, it takes work and effort to maintain and care for your marriage. According to Proverbs, if we aren’t building, we’re destroying.
I took the weekly marriage challenge issued by my Mom – if you follow me on Instagram, you might have seen the pictures I posted with #MondayMarriageMatters.
Today my Mom is also sharing a recap of the #MondayMarriageMatters posts from the past couple weeks. You can read her post here. I hope you’ll join in the #MondayMarriageMatters challenge – of course you don’t have to post it on Instagram unless you choose to do that. Just take a moment each week and do something special for your marriage – because it matters!
What a great challenge! A very holy priest once told me that the best gift you can give your children is to love their father. Working on marriage is so important! Thanks for sharing this with us for Tuesday Talk! I’ll be following along on Instagram now 🙂 -Jessica, Sweet Little Ones

I totally agree with that, Jessica! My parents used to always tell us, “we’re going on a date to make a better home for you.”

This is so sweet!! I love the idea of taking time to maintain your marriage and making your husband feel loved. You’ve got me thinking of little things I can do to encourage Kevin. I like your ideas of date nights, going to events together and let him know you appreciate his hard work for your family.

Wonderful thoughts and ideas here, Whitney! I’m not on Instagram (need to change that, I think, if I can figure it out) but I thought I would quickly share something I did yesterday. My hubby has a particular kind of chocolate cookie that he loves. We usually make them at Christmas time, and he did make a double batch this year but they went fast. He’s been saying that he needs to make more. We’re also trying to eat healthier, so yesterday I experimented with making the cookies more healthy and made a double batch. They came out well and he was so happy to see those cookies when he got home after a hard day at work!

It has been so good for us to set a weekly date – even though we don’t have kids. Getting out of the house is so helpful for our conversation!

What a great, and sweet idea. I needed to read this today. It’s easy to get in a rut where you expect the other person to do the right thing/kind thing/sweet thing first. You inspired me to take the first step today. Thanks friend.
