Enjoying The Journey

My Summer Bucket List

My Summer Bucket List via ComeHomeForComfort.com

Let’s be honest. Summer is my least favorite season. The last couple of years I’ve found myself bracing for the heat, staying indoors as much as possible and counting the days until November when it’s cool again. I decided that this year I’m going to “play the glad game” (Pollyanna, anyone?) and look for things to enjoy about summer. If nothing else, it makes a huge difference that this year I’m working in a place with actual, functioning AC. Thank goodness – I literally carried a box fan around with me at my retail job last summer. LOL.

Here is my summer bucket list! (Updated as the summer goes on to show progress!)

  • Make homemade strawberry freezer jam  picture of the result
  • Take our new neighbors to have ice cream at the local ice cream hot spot  My sister and I went one night, and we went to the new Brusters with my inlaws, so I’m counting this!
  • Plan and throw a party (with my sister) for our parent’s 35th anniversary! recap post
  • Visit my grandparents in Kentucky
  • Meet up with at least one blog friend
  • Plan our end of summer road trip vacation – this will be postponed until later in the fall #lifehappens
  • Meet up with my sister for outlet shopping & tacos in Asheville we did it!
  • Plan something fun for Paul’s birthday in July pizza and cake were the perfect solution
  • Perfect my cold-brew coffee method (anyone have a system they love?) Blog post and video!

I also went through my pictures from last summer, to remind myself of all the good times I had…despite the horrid heat. 🙂 If you’re dreading summer for one reason or another, try making a list of the things you can look forward to during the next few months. Scroll back through your Instagram pictures and remind yourself of some fun things you did last year. Here are a few of my summer 2015 highlights:

  1. The first two items on your list have my tummy growling – sounds amazing! We threw our parents a surprise 40th anniversary party several years ago and it was awesome! Have a great summer – thanks for linking up!

  2. So funny! I’m from New England so summer is my favorite and I’m dreading November’s cold! I have to make winter bucket lists to keep myself from going nuts locked indoors avoiding sub zero temp so I get where you’re coming from. My summer list is just simple things like wearing flip flops & going outside without a coat. 🙂

  3. Maybe it is living in North Carolina with heat and humidity a little longer than we like that makes us not like summer. It is my least favorite season. Like you, I can’t wait for fall. The only thing I enjoy about it is having summers off from school.

  4. I’m right there with you! Since moving to Florida, summer is my least favorite season. But I love the idea of a bucket list so that there is something to look forward to. Have you tried CFA’s new coffee ice cream drink? I haven’t yet, but I think that needs to be on my bucket list. 🙂

  5. Summer is a tricky season. I am so thankful for warmth after a frigid winter, but the humidity is hard to deal with. Without the humidity, an 86-degree day here is pretty nice. Above that, I’m also running for the AC. A summer bucket list is a good idea, especially since it’s already May! Congrats to your parents on 35 years! 🙂

  6. I am excited to do a summer bucket list, too. I may have to do one for the kids and one for my hubby and I separate. It’s feeling more and more like summer every day. I can’t wait!

  7. Ha! I’m not a fan of the summer heat either! I am looking forward to less structured days and getting some projects done. I haven’t made our summer fun list yet, but it’s on my list.

Ps. Making freezer jam scares me. I don’t know why I can’t seem to make myself try to make it. My mother used to make it all the time.

    1. It’s probably even hotter where you live, bless your heart. You should try freezer jam! I am not a fan of complicated recipes but I have never had trouble making this stuff. It’s much easier than actual canning. I wish you could just come over and we could make a batch together – it’s easier with two people!

  8. Love that you kept your list small enough to be realistic and not overwhelming! How exciting your parents are celebrating 35 years of marriage….and meeting a blog friend is so something I am looking forward to one day! My friend Katy and I have a summer bucket list link up as part of our Spiel the Beans series this coming Tuesday and we would love for you to add this post!!

  9. I love that you’re already thinking about summer! Way to stay on top of things and get yourself excited for a season that isn’t your favorite. I definitely don’t love the heat, but you’ve inspired me to write out a summer bucket list. It’s going to include things like Sonic milkshakes, evening walks in our new neighborhood, the pool, a trip to the beach, a few road trips, picnic lunches, patio picnics, homemade ice cream and maybe hosting a 4th of July party. I’m excited to hear about your outlet mall trip, trips to see family and meeting up with a blog friend. I’d like for that meet up to be with me 🙂

But, I am looking forward to a few weeks of no school!!! And big E going to camp for a week, so a week of one on one time with little e. And cleaning out the basement (yes, really). Oh, and I guess my birthday (#35!).

  11. What a great outlook, Whitney! Bless your heart for having to carry a box fan around with you at your job last summer. In regards to the cold brew coffee, a friend of mine got a great cold brew coffee pot on Amazon. She loves it. I just made super strong coffee and pour it over ice. Iced coffee is my favorite! Thanks for visiting Waiting on Wednesday!

  13. I am with you Whitney, the hot days of summer are not my favorite either. I am looking forward to a beach trip with the family, finally getting started on our little house in Georgia and enjoying all the fresh fruits and veggies of summertime.

    1. I know, I shouldn’t complain. I do miss Indiana’s summers and falls. I like our mild winters and early springs in South Carolina…it’s just the oppressive humidity that does me in. 🙂 It’s already started and I’m over it. 🙂
