5 Thoughts While Watching The Olympics

What is it about the Olympics that is so attractive and compelling to everyone? For me, it’s the chance to display my ardent patriotism as the best athletes from America compete with the best athletes from the rest of the world. I love seeing so many people proudly display the American flag, wearing it on their uniform or waving it from the stands.

My favorite summer Olympic events are swimming, diving and gymnastics. While the events themselves are incredibly interesting, my mind usually wanders during those pre-event shots where the camera zooms in on the athletes, their family or their coaches. I decided to share a few of those random thoughts with you today! Please tell me I’m not the only one with less than singular focus. 🙂

One: I wonder if I could pull off a full face of gymnastics makeup?

I mean, seriously. Their makeup is always flawless and so girly. Laurie Hernandez has the most perfect cat eye I’ve ever seen!

Two: Why does the official “Rio” font look like an old Microsoft font from the 90’s?

It reminds me of an old school font. Anyone else think this?

Three: (watching the diving judges) I feel you, lady judge in a poncho. Being wet is the worst.

Four: I wonder what Aly Raisman’s mom has in her purse?

If I was going to be in a hot, crowded arena all day long, I’d be carrying around a huge bag of stuff to get me through the day. Wonder if she’d do a “what’s in my bag” video for my YouTube channel?

Five: What nail polish is Dana Vollmer wearing?

I doubt she has time to do much touching up while she’s in Rio, so I want to know what polish lasts for two weeks in the pool!

What random thoughts go through your mind while you watch the Olympics?

  1. I totally think outside the box over the Olympics! Why do the swimmers wear TWO caps? Isn’t one sufficient or why isn’t it thicker to begin with? Why don’t all the gymnasts from a country wear the same leotards matching? And why aren’t the gymnasts backside of their leotard wider….that would be distracting to me and I would be caught on camera adjusting it all the time! How do they always keep their hair in place when I walk outside and mine is flipping all around? Why do the women volleyball players wear such skimpy outfits (refer back to my tugging issue above…) and how does it all stay in place just right when they are all over the place? Did you notice the men volleyball players wear slouchy tanks and shorts to play….tight skimpy outfits mist not be needed by the men to play. I’m also very interested in the countries all mixing and wonder what they really think about each other especially with all the unrest and politics going on. See…..we all have wandering minds!

    1. I did some Googling just out of curiosity earlier this week – the gymnasts lose points if they adjust their leotards during their routine! They use double sided tape and a type of glue to hold it in place. I’ve heard a few things about issues between the Israeli team and other Middle Eastern teams – yikes!

  2. USA! USA! USA! 🙂 Another Olympics fan here! I sometimes don’t know why I watch so many events, but they are captivating. Maybe I secretly wanted to be an athlete? Haha! Playing sports isn’t really my thing, but I love a good speed walk!

The unity is a great part of the Olympics, as everyone seems to come together to watch and cheer on the athletes. I sport my favorite red, white and blue jewelry and clothing often during these 2 weeks. Gymnastics and swimming are my favorite events, too, but I’ve been enjoying some beach volleyball now and then.

You totally have me giggling about the swimming judges in their raincoats! I hadn’t seen them before! What a challenge to stay dry!

I totally agree about the nail polish in the pool thing! How does it hold up? And I was wondering if they bring nail polish to the games, or if there’s some fancy nail/makeup salon for the athletes to pamper themselves. How cool would that be?! 🙂 It would be fun to get a virtual tour of the athlete area/village!

Oh, one other part I enjoy about the Olympics is learning more about far off places. It’s fun to see more of different cultures and places around the globe! (Geography nerd!)

  3. Ha ha! Yes, that makeup is so pretty! I noticed the nail polish, as well! I was actually surprised to see it. It is staying on, which is impressive. Have a great weekend!

  4. These are great! 🙂
I’m loving how many athletes are claiming Christ & praising God on national & world coverage.
And Boomer Phelps with his little ear muffs…. So adorable!
Also, I get annoyed when they talk about how “old” Michael Phelps & Aly Raisman are. Ugh. I’m ancient. 😉

  5. haha I have a lot of those random thoughts too! I also wonder if it were my kid would I be all cool and loving like Simone Biles parents or a nut job like Aly’s mom? Probably nut job, if I am being honest.
