My Choice For Today

As I’m writing this, it’s Tuesday night in America – and I don’t know who is going to win the election. During the last week I have fought the feelings of uncertainty, fear and dread. Whether or not you care about the outcome of the election in the USA, all of us will face uncertainty, fear and dread at some point in our lives. When those times come, we have to choose where we will place our focus. Here are the things that I’m choosing to think about today – I hope you will ponder these things too, no matter who or where you are today.

Life is uncertain. God is faithful. Life is scary. God is in control. I don’t have to fear tomorrow, because I know the One who is already there!

Things on this earth are frightening and sad, but isn’t it good to know that God is in control and that this life is not all there is? We have hope because of Jesus Christ. Only Jesus can heal this hurting world. Look up – look to Jesus – instead of around at the sadness and destruction.

2 Samuel 10:12 “Be of good courage, and let us be courageous for our people, and for the cities of our God, and may the Lord do what seems good to him.”

Hebrews 12:1-3 “Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted.”

Hebrews 10:37-38 “For,“Yet a little while, and the coming one will come and will not delay; but my righteous one shall live by faith.”

Isaiah 41:10 “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

“Why pray? Because prayer communicates our dependence on God, our comprehension that we are, indeed, desperate for God’s presence and help. When we pray, we are enlisting, invoking, inviting divine assistance. We’re asking God to come in.” (Dave Stone)

If you don’t have a personal relationship with God, here’s a simple explanation of Who God is and how you can have a relationship with Him.

  1. Excellent post, Whitney! Thanks for the encouragement today. We all need to be faithful in praying for our president-elect and other newly elected leaders.

  2. I don’t think I’ve ever prayed about an election as much as this one. God was here before the election, though, and he’s here today. Praying that all of this is in His plan! We just need to make the best of whatever comes our way.

  3. Great reminder for all of us! It’s a scary time, but it’s important to remember that He’s in control! Thanks for the awesome words, I needed them!

  4. Such good thoughts friend and such a pertinent post. Where some of us are almost dancing with joy others are mourning. My prayer today is that God binds our country together instead of more division and separation coming between us.
