5 Things On Friday {May’s Highlights}

It’s time to recap this month’s highlights! Here’s a look back at my favorite things from May!

1// Date Night

Paul took me on an extra special date night to a really nice place we’ve always wanted to try, called The Strip Club 104. Trust me, it’s not as scandalous as it sounds. 🙂 It’s an upscale Southern steak house in a very quaint, historic section of town. They are known for their steak, but in our opinion the crab cakes stole the show. Honestly I could have made a meal out of the cheddar bacon biscuits and the hot pepper jelly dipping sauce. Woah.

2// Visiting My Family In Tennessee

I made a quick trip up to see my family – but especially to snuggle my sweet nephews. I’m not really great with babies but some are just too cute and sweet to pass up! 🙂 To protect their adorable privacy I won’t post any pictures here, but if you know me IRL…I have tons of pics on my phone I can show you. ❤ I got to attend their church on Sunday which is always something I look forward to. Bonus of visiting a different church – you can re-wear an outfit and nobody will notice! 🙂

3// Mother’s Day Brunch

We celebrated Mother’s Day with Paul’s Mom and Dad over brunch at our house. (I recapped the menu here.)We are so fortunate to live so close to our families!

4// Call The Midwife

Every spring I blog about how much I love this show. I always find that the quotes and narration at the end of each episode tug at my heartstrings as they wrap up whatever heart-wrenching thing unfolded during the last 40 minutes. The two that stand out the most from this season share the same theme:

  • “Where there is friendship and affection, there is a place we can call home.”
  • “The memories don’t belong to the house – they come with us.” –Dr. Turner to Timothy, as they are moving from their original flat to their new home

5// Landscaping

At the end of last month, Paul spent an entire day ripping up almost 5 years of unattended landscaping, weeding flower beds, hacking pruning bushes and putting down new mulch. I can honestly say I have enjoyed our new landscaping every single day this month! It gave new life to our house (and I’m sure the neighbors appreciated it too!).

  1. What a great month! Those biscuits and crab cakes sound amazing. It’s always fun to try fancy places for dinner. I love your church outfit so I’m glad you got to rewear it. Your landscaping looks great. It takes a ton of work for stuff like that, but it’s always worth it. Hope June is just as much fun 🙂

  2. Another Call the Midwife fan here…the thalidomide baby story line was so interesting. Many have forgotten about the devastation that drug caused back in the 1960s. Also the Downs story line was one that touched me as I had a young cousin who was Downs. Andthe wedding on the finale brought tears to my eyes. I was so glad Phyllis was the bridesmaid.

    1. Oh my – that Downs story line had Paul and I both in ugly cry mode. I have really come to love Phyllis throughout the seasons – they have done such great character development with her!
