Why do we so easily forget the good days and so fiercely hang on to the bad ones? I am ashamed to say that I considered not even writing a year-end highlights post for 2018 because I figured there weren’t enough good memories to outweigh the hard ones.
I was wrong! God has graciously given us some really sweet memories that remind me of His goodness, grace and kindness in our lives. If you feel as I did that 2018 isn’t worth looking back on, I hope you’ll scroll through your pictures and find some sweet memories – like these!
January: 4 days of snow
March: Kentucky road trip with Paul
April: Hand lettering class with Mom
May: Spending Mother’s Day with my parents
June: Asheville brunch with my Mom, sister and nephews
July: Atlantic City Road Trip
August: Boone weekend for Mom’s birthday
September: Birthday weekend in Kentucky
October: Gaither Vocal Band Concert
November: Traveling with Mom
November: UK game!
December: HamFam Christmas!
Previous Year-End Highlights: 2017 | 2016 | 2015 | 2014 | 2013
Some of the most read posts from this year included my Nana’s Secret To A Tidy Home, The Truth About My Marriage and My Favorite Breakfast Casserole.
My first post on How To Leave A Church got lots of love and comments – I wasn’t surprised that the follow up post wasn’t as warmly received. The advice I gave in that post isn’t easy to follow! 🙂 I wrote those posts because on the first Sunday of 2018, we joined a new church. That was easily the best thing we did all year!

So true. We hold on to what didn’t go right wishing we went down a different path. But that is dangerous since the traveled path may have been the correct one. Happy to see your positive posting for the New Year!!

Happy New Year!! I’m glad you were able to find so many happy moments from 2018! I hope it was a good reminder of all the good that the year brought in the midst of hard times. I’m hoping to do the same for our year next week. We definitely had some hard things to work through, but I am thankful for all the smiles and good times sprinkled in between the challenging ones. God is good even when things don’t work out like we think they should or how we’ve planned (something I have to remind myself regularly) 🙂

I have been under a fog due to a difficult situation with a family member. It has been a problem since September and it does color my world for sure. I am trying to be the bigger person but isn’t it easy to hang on to hurt?? It is for me. I am trying to let it go in 2019. No apology will be received from this person and I need to let that go as well. Being a first child I get so aggravated at those who do not play by the rules.lol Thanks for being so transparent as that helps all of us see the EVERYONE struggles in spite of the carefully curated life we see on Social Media.

I am so glad you decided to do this post! I’m sure looking back at 2018 and recalling all of these beautiful highlights caused your heart to rejoice in God’s goodness! No year will be perfect while we’re living in this broken world, but boy does God grow us in times of hardships and through it all He gives such good gifts! I find posts like this (and Friday 5’s in general) to be such a great aid in noticing and better appreciating the blessings He brings. It was a joy to read your year in review today. Happiest of New Year wishes to you, sweet friend! xo!

I so agree, friend – these posts make me “hope in God’s faithfulness” instead of going “down to the pit” like Jeremiah talks about – it’s my choice to do one or the other. Happy New Year to you! ❤
