3 Homemaking Tips That Will Make Your Life Easier!

Happy Monday! I have three things that I really want to share with you. They aren’t enough to constitute a whole blog post on their own, so I rolled them into one roundup of things that I think will definitely make your homemaking job a lot easier! Here they are!

#1 Buy an Instant Read Digital Meat Thermometer

I’ve been making full meals since high school – but I’ve never mastered the art of perfectly cooked meat. Being afraid of under cooked meat, I either end up mangling the chicken breast or meatloaf as I try to decide if it’s done enough or I just over cook it!

My Mom purchased one, and she’s raved about it for months. I had a gift card to Bed, Bath and Beyond – so I found an affordable one and had it shipped to my door. It works perfectly for my needs and has changed my life. I’m not kidding!

I haven’t made pork chops in YEARS because I always ended up overcooking them. The pork chops I made last week (although too salty as I mentioned) were so juicy and delicious due to my instant read thermometer telling me they were done a couple minutes early. The one I bought has disappeared from Bed Bath and Beyond’s website, but you can grab it on Amazon.

#2 Make Your Dishwasher Work For You

When plastic-type things get mildewy or really dirty, I love to throw them in the top rack of my dishwasher and let the machine get them nice and clean for me. I don’t wash them with dishes – I run a separate load with just those items.

Things I’ve cleaned in the dishwasher:

  • Dish Drainer
  • Shower Organizers
  • Bathroom Fan Cover – if you have one like this, it pops right off and comes out of the dishwasher looking brand new!

#3 Turn Overwhelming, Dreaded Chores into Everyday Routines

The tub in my husband’s bathroom is always SO dirty at the end of the week. He works hard and usually gets really dirty in the process…and it all stays behind in the tub. I always dreaded cleaning his tub and shower because it took forever.

Here’s what I do now: instead of waiting until the end of the week to scrub it out, each morning I wipe out any excess hair and spray it down with every day shower cleaner.  This keeps the shower looking presentable (not perfect) each day and makes my end of the week chore much easier.

If there’s a chore that you dread, see if there’s a daily routine you can incorporate to make it more manageable!

Happy Homemaking!

  1. Great tips! I don’t own a meat thermometer and now I feel like I may be missing out. I’ve also never washed non dish items in my dishwasher. I will have to give that a try. I don’t love hand washing dishes. I used to put it off for days which only made the job worse. So now I’ve incorporated it into my after dinner routine. I hand wash all the dishes that need it from the day right after dinner and let them air dry over night. Makes the chore much more doable when I’m already doing the dishes from dinner.

    1. Seriously – that meat thermometer is the best!! I pulled chicken breasts out of the slow cooker much earlier than normal because I could accurately test the temperature. They were SO much better than they usually are!

  2. Great post. I especially loved the dishwasher tip! I’ve never had a dishwasher in my life until a few weeks ago and I’ll be keeping all those extra household items in mind. Thank you!
