Organizing Paper Products: Before and After

An organized home requires maintenance. If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a hundred times. Every organized space will eventually need an overhaul for one reason or another. This was definitely the case with the cupboard where I store my paper products.

Here’s what it used to look like:

That was FOUR years ago. Earlier this summer, I opened the cabinet and faced the harsh reality of what happens when an organization system is not maintained.

I couldn’t pull the green basket out without the cups falling all over the place. It was time to get this mess in order. I took everything out and sorted it by type.

I put the napkins into large ziploc bags and labeled them by categories: birthday, Christmas, fall, etc.

I threw away a few things and reorganized everything else so that it fit nicely in the bins.

I decided that I needed deeper bins so that things wouldn’t fall out when I pulled the bin out of the cupboard. I happened to have these Dollar Tree bins on hand, but this exact style is available in stores right now. They bring them out for back to school as locker organizers!

Here’s the finished product! I used chalkboard labels and a chalkboard marker from Amazon. These are the same ones I use in my other kitchen cupboards – I love how easy they are to read, and the chalk does not smudge (it’s pretty permanent).

I love a good before and after – it’s so satisfying!

This project only took 20 minutes to complete! You probably have a cupboard, closet, drawer or space that needs an organization overhaul. Have I inspired you to tackle it?

  1. I love little projects like this! They’re so satisfying. I have a few areas like this that easily get out of control. I am planning to do some closet overhauls once the school year begins and my older kids are back in school. I’m going to start by taking everything out because I’m not even 100% sure what’s hiding in my craft closet 🙂

    1. You are so right – it’s amazing how much satisfaction I get from a small organizing project. It makes life so much easier! My craft closet is pretty much the same as yours – I have to overhaul it at least once a year.
