Month In Review {March 2023}

What a busy month we’ve had! Although to be fair, I think we’re in for a lot of busy months during this new season of life.

This month we had spring break (which I recapped here), a busy work schedule for Paul, and a death in the family on top of the regular school and family of five routine. Let’s jump into the highlights!

The Highlights

I traveled with my sister and her family to our Papa’s funeral. While it was a sad occasion, we were grateful to be able to spend some time together. Other than Paul, Alli is my dearest friend and my favorite person. It was comforting to be together for a few hours.

My brother in law served all of us during the trip – carting our luggage, making sure we had good coffee, and getting us where we needed to be on time. And of course my precious nephews made the trip sweeter. They’re growing up so fast!

Back at home, Paul and I attended our first Kindergarten open house this month. It was fun to let our Kindergartener lead us through the halls and down to their classroom, to meet some of their friends, and to get a little peek into that part of their day.

Things I wish I could show pictures of:

  • our middle kiddo accompanying Paul to work on career day
  • pj night at our favorite ice cream spot (free ice cream if you wear your pj’s!)
  • the first visit from the tooth fairy
  • sleepy kiddos crashing on the way home from school
  • proud kiddos displaying things they learned to do: making a new recipe, using the electric mixer for the first time, sewing a button on a piece of cloth
  • fun times playing outside with Paul – on the trampoline, riding bikes and playing catch

Paul is still in the middle of a busy season officiating college lacrosse. I’m grateful (and proud!) to be able to catch bits of his games on ESPN.

We got to enjoy a very special date night this month! Sweet friends spent time with our kiddos while we enjoyed the luxury of supper at our favorite date night spot, followed by a night at the theatre.

We LOVE Disney’s stage version of Beauty and the Beast and have now seen it three times. It was a special treat to view it from the front row!

Those are the highlights, and it’s important to reflect on them because our days are often hard and long. I’m so grateful for the little things like iced coffee and a sweet friend who dropped off festive Krispy Kreme donuts. These things remind us of God’s goodness as the Giver of all good gifts.

From This Month’s Bible Reading

These verses from Deuteronomy 32 and Psalm 90 were such a comfort to me this month.

He found him in a desolate land, in a barren, howling wilderness; he surrounded him, cared for him, and protected him as the pupil of his eye. He watches over his nest like an eagle and hovers over his young; he spreads his wings, catches him, and carries him on his feathers. The Lord alone led him, with no help from a foreign god. He made him ride on the heights of the land and eat the produce of the field. He nourished him with honey from the rock.

See now that I alone am he; there is no God but me. I bring death and I give life; I wound and I heal. No one can rescue anyone from my power.

He said to them, “Take to heart all these words I am giving as a warning to you today, so that you may command your children to follow all the words of this law carefully. For they are not meaningless words to you but they are your life.”

Because he has his heart set on me, I will deliver him; I will protect him because he knows my name. When he calls out to me, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble. I will rescue him and give him honor. I will satisfy him with a long life and show him my salvation.

If you’re in a hard season of grief, change, or uncertainty, I am praying that you’ll find comfort in the God who does all these great things for us.

I’m excited to head into Easter week as we focus on the most important holiday. Here’s some inspiration for you as you prepare to celebrate!

  1. Fun post!! Date nights are the best. You both look wonderful! I have a question…. What blush do you use? Your makeup always looks so nice. Have a blessed day.

    1. Once our adoption is finalized, I will be allowed to show their photos. That doesn’t mean that I will, though. It depends how my older kiddos feel about that. I would love to show them off, though! ❤
