Labor Day Weekend 2019

It’s very unusual for us to spend Labor Day away from home. Most of the time Paul works and I spend the day at home catching up on projects. This year we spent a lot of the weekend traveling through the mountains – which we always enjoy!

We drove through a different part of East Tennessee on Saturday night and watched the sunset from the most gorgeous mountain view! As I enjoyed the stunning sight, the verses I read that morning came to my mind. I am so thankful that I can live in security and thrive in God’s presence even when the circumstances of life are uncertain. This world will perish but he remains forever!

On Sunday we joined my family for church, which is always a treat! Afterward we gathered to celebrated Mom’s birthday a little early (since we were all together – why not!?). My Dad grilled steaks and my sister and I brought everything to go with them. Alli made an amazing Snickerdoodle Apple Cobbler that we devoured. It was wonderful to spend the afternoon together!

Monday morning we headed to The Wilds, the camp where we all worked during college (Paul, me, my sister and her husband). My family has been attending camp at the Wilds since my Dad was in high school, so it has played a huge role in our lives and our personal walks with God.

They were celebrating their 50th year and had a big open house for former staff and campers. It was nice to see old friends and even more precious to be reminded of the things I learned and experienced during my years as a camper and staff member. Things like:

  • God’s love for me is unchanging
  • God’s purpose for me is Christlikeness
  • God’s word to me is the final answer
  • God’s grace for me is sufficient

Those truths help me make sense of the chaos that is sometimes my life! I’m thankful for the memories and the guiding principles that will live in my heart. PS – my Mom is speaking at The Wilds this spring!

I’m happy, as always, to wave goodbye to summer and to see cooler days ahead. They might not be here until November, but they are coming! 🙂
