Thank You, Heroes

Last year I wrote about two of my favorite veterans. Today I want to thank every man and woman who has served for the cause of America’s freedom.

As a person who cherishes the comfort of home, I cannot imagine saying goodbye to everything that is familiar and heading to another country with no assurance that you will return to that home. Yet thousands of men and women have done just that, in defense of our freedom. I feel that it would be disrespectful to talk about anything else in this space than to thank the veterans of the United States Armed Forces on this day.

O beautiful for heroes proved In liberating strife,
Who more than self their country loved,
And mercy more than life!
America! America! May God thy gold refine
Till all success be nobleness,
And ev’ry gain divine!
