April 2020 in Review

April’s calendar was crammed with so much that there were only a couple “ordinary” days where we could catch our breath. Paul had a jam-packed month of work as a college lacrosse official, traveling 4 or 5 days a week to various colleges in the South. I planned a beach vacation at the end of April to celebrate his great season – it would have been Paul’s first-ever vacation at the beach.

I planned to travel with Paul on at least one of those lacrosse trips, spending time with my family in between games. My mom was scheduled to speak at a Ladies Retreat in North Carolina, and my sister and I were planning to enjoy that weekend together while hearing Mom speak.

In between all of that would have been our normal days of work – me at my job and Paul at his (he works a day job along with his referee schedule), cleaning routines at home, weekends filled with errands, church and date nights.

Obviously – all of that was cancelled. Instead of a month crammed with events, we’ve enjoyed a month full of those “ordinary” days I was truthfully longing for. Sure, I’m disappointed that we didn’t get to do those fun things, that Paul didn’t get to enjoy his month of refereeing (and of course the extra income we enjoy from that!) and that I haven’t seen my family all month!

Here’s what we did enjoy  – spending slow Sunday mornings together, driving to look at the spring blooms in the mountains, working on home projects together, reading or watching shows together on the deck and eating almost every supper meal together! I enjoyed taking it slow, playing the piano and spending more time in the kitchen.

Of course, the cats love having me home all the time. They follow me from room to room and find a cozy spot to snuggle near me all day and all night.

I don’t know what May will look like, but I can trust it to the One who holds the world in His hand! Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand.” Proverbs 19:21

  1. Glad you were able to find joy in the drastic change to your plans. That’s not always easy to do for someone who likes to have a plan 🙂 I know. Hope that you can reschedule some of your fun adventures for Summer and that May brings more joy. Your new deck looks so nice! Glad you got it done in time to enjoy during this season at home.

  2. I am the same as you. I have been wanting to slow my life down for a long time now. My wish has come true and I am thoroughly enjoying each day. During this quarantine I have been counting our blessings. My husband and I have it so much better than many, many people. (Our stay-at-home order has been extended to May 31. I do wish I could get a haircut. LOL!)

    Take care, Whitney. Love you.

    1. I’m so glad you’re able to enjoy your time at home – although I can definitely sympathize with you on the haircut. Having your order extended till the end of the month might make things interesting – hang in there! 🙂
