October is here, it’s officially fall and I am so glad! Here are five things I’m really enjoying right now – after you scroll through them, leave a comment and let me know what you’re loving about this time of year!

#1 Soup Season

Paul and I both love soup, and even though I make a lot of hot meals during the summer, I just can’t do soup when it’s hot outside. This week I made my first pot of chili for the season and it was delicious!

I also made a batch of okra hoecakes to go with it, and let me tell you, that was a good decision. I made my hoecakes with fresh okra and a Jiffy mix, but you can get the official recipe from Paula Deen.

#2 Candy Corn

I love things that are special to a season, and candy corn definitely falls in that category! I try to keep a dish of it somewhere in the house until Thanksgiving, but it disappears pretty quickly. I also love to mix it with salted peanuts!

#3 Dark Nail Polish

This is my favorite time of year for nail polish, hands down (wink)! I love the dark, vampy colors just as much now as I did in the 90’s. Essie’s fall collection is full of beautiful shades that are perfect for fall. I linked the collection at Ulta, but I always look for Essie and OPI polish at TJ Maxx and Ross.

#4 All The Pumpkin Things

Personally, I prefer pumpkin in my food – not in my beverages. I was so excited to see that Pumpkin Cheerios were available at Target and immediately added a giant box to my pickup order! It won’t take me long to snack my way through them. 🙂

I was also glad to find that the whole box fit perfectly in my new cereal containers from Amazon!

#5 Cozy Evenings

I know I’m in the minority, but I love when it starts getting dark earlier! There’s nothing better than getting cozy on the couch with the fairy lights twinkling and a candle burning.

What is your favorite thing about this time of year? Where do you stand on candy corn and pumpkin flavored things?

  1. I love all the pumpkin baked goods, but don’t care for things like pumpkin ice cream or cold pumpkin things. I’m ready for soup season 100%. Carolina Charm does a new soup every Sunday and I really like the idea of that. I love to add candy corn and pumpkins to my kid’s lunchboxes and I enjoy them with salty peanuts. I’m not quite ready for it to starting getting dark earlier. I love having time to play outside with my kids before dinner to help wear them out 🙂 I haven’t painted my nails in ages – all those pretty fall nail polishes makes me want to get back into that routine.

  2. I love all things pumpkin and apple, and breaking out my favorite soup recipes. I also discovered 3-wick candles at Walmart that are 3.88 and burn just as well as the much more expensive Yankee candles, and smell wonderful. I bought the Pumpkin-Spice and the Apple Cider donut scents.

  3. I hope you like the Pumpkin Spice Cheeriios. They are so good. You are the second person recently to say they liked to mix candy corn with salted peanuts, so I am going to give it a try. I love the cooler days, the crisp air and the changing colors that this season brings. Happy October and have a wonderful weekend!

I am a HUGE FAN of candy corn, those little pumpkin candies, lighting candles, and tasty pumpkin treats… I just bought a new cozy throw blanket from Walmart to celebrate the season… Your chili looks AMAZING!!! I have little fairy lights on my mantle and on my two tiered trays… Happy October!!!
