I’m Just Tired

“I just want a normal week without sickness or surprises.”

“I just want a day where the only person I have to take care of is myself.”

“I just want this to be over.”

“I’m just tired.”

All of those phrases came up in conversations I had with various people recently. After almost two full years in pandemic land, these kinds of feelings are not unusual. I imagine that if the people I encounter in my everyday life feel this way – you might have felt or thought one of those things, too.

Scrolling social media also indicates how the general feeling of weariness and overwhelm has basically become a cultural norm.

Are you ready for some relief? Here are three things that won’t change your circumstances but will provide refreshment for your weary soul:

1 – Know that God sees you.

But you [God] do see, for you note mischief and vexation, that you may take it into your hands; to you the helpless commits himself; you have been the helper of the fatherless. (Psalm 10:14)

And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob. God saw the people of Israel—and God knew. (Exodus 2:24-25)

2 – Get close to God daily.

But for me it is good to be near God; I have made the Lord God my refuge, that I may tell of all your works. (Psalm 73:28)

Your life may not be good. It might be awful. Your life may not be good – but God is! It is good to be near Him. Other translations of the Bible say “God’s presence is my good.”

When I think on my ways, I turn my feet to your testimonies…Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I keep your word. You are good and do good; teach me your statutes…It is good for me that I was afflicted, that I might learn your statutes. (Psalm 119:59, 67-68, 71)

3 – Listen to good music that reminds you of God’s character and faithfulness.

Find music that stirs your heart and points you to Jesus. There are lots of different styles and genres of music like this, but here are a few recommendations from artists that I enjoy:

Southern Gospel music is my personal favorite, so I’ll give you several recommendations from this style:

Turning on good music like this gives me an instant attitude adjustment! I like to listen in the car, while I’m working around the house and any time I’m feeling overwhelmed, burdened or sad.

An added benefit of refreshing your soul with these things is that you’re able to point others toward the refreshment! When someone comes to you and is burdened, weary or over it, you can encourage their hearts with the encouragement you’ve received from your walk with the God who sees. ❤ Here’s how to do that.

  1. I could work on all three of these areas! Somethings that I have been doing are: to make sure that I get outside, interact with people in person and do things for others when life is just feeling off. Thanks for the encouragement.

  2. How encouraging! Especially the section on how good it is to be near God, near to the One who is good, near to goodness in a world that is not good.
