Month in Review {May 2022}

It’s hard to believe that 20 years ago this weekend was the first time Paul and I met. We were on camp summer staff as 21 and 17 year olds – he was a cook and I was a waitress. Sparks didn’t fly until we reconnected 7 years later, but this was the beginning.

While we’re on the topic of time flying, let’s wrap up the highlights from May!

We attended a Gospel Music Hymn Sing, where several Southern Gospel groups come together and lead the audience in two hours of singing hymns (just like it sounds).

I hosted Paul’s family for supper on Mother’s Day weekend and had fun setting a pretty table.

My parents and I spent a weekend with my nephews while my sister and brother in law were out of town. They are the best kite flyers!

We’re in the process of updating our hall bathroom, and between having it painted and having a new tub/shower installed it has been at least partially out of commission all month. This project should be finished soon and we’re so excited!

Life isn’t always fun weekends and exciting projects, though. After holding out all these years I finally came down with Covid and spent a week out of commission. I’m thankful it wasn’t an extreme case, although a miserable week nonetheless. Peggy is always glad to have a snuggle partner!

One night while I was sick, I woke up feeling really bad – fever, aches, miserable from head to toe. As I thought about how much I wanted this to be over, I could feel the comfort of the Holy Spirit speaking to my heart.

My heart was filled with the knowledge that Jesus knows what this physical suffering feels like and the comfort that he cares about me in my suffering. It was as if the Holy Spirit said to me, “You know God – you know who he is and how much he cares.”

How does that happen?

Remember your word to your servant; you have given me hope through it. This is my comfort in my affliction: Your promise has given me life. Your statutes are the theme of my song during my earthly life. Lord, I remember your name in the night. (Psalm 119:49-55)

It happens when we draw near to God and hold fast to his word. The Holy Spirit was only reminding me of the things I’ve stored up in my heart as I’ve read and listened to God’s Word every day. We never know when difficulty will happen – but this is such a good reason to fill our hearts with truth.

I’m so thankful that God cares about us when we’re physically sick. There’s no other god like Him. If you’re suffering today, draw near to God. He gives life and hope!
