I’m In Over My Head

IMG_1057

I don’t care for the phrase, “God never gives us more than we can handle.” I believe that our loving God does indeed give us more than we can handle, because it’s in our weakness that His strength is made perfect.

More than once in the last few weeks I’ve felt very overwhelmed –  definitely in over my head. As a person who likes to have everything neatly under control, this is not a pleasant situation. I know that God is in control and that His love for me never changes – but I find myself losing the ability to hold up under the various emotions that grip my heart. Today I thought back to something I’ve shared before:

“Why pray? Because prayer communicates our dependence on God, our comprehension that we are, indeed, desperate for God’s presence and help. When we pray, we are enlisting, invoking, inviting divine assistance. We’re asking God to come in.

Prayer can’t simply be a fleeting sentence or two thrown heavenward when we’re struggling…it’s a privilege, and it is to be a priority. It’s also a recognition that we are in over our heads.

Take it from a young girl who spoke with an angel and discovered herself pregnant with a long-awaited Messiah: “Nothing is impossible with God.” (Luke 1:37). This Lord of ours specializes in making something from nothing and bringing beauty from ashes.” (via)

If you find yourself in over your head today, invite that divine assistance.  “Jesus knows our every weakness – take it to the Lord in prayer.”

  1. I completely agree. God gives me more than I can handle on a regular basis. if we could handle everything we wouldn’t need to depend on God.

  2. Oh how I agree with you. Our minister preached on this very topic last year. Yes, indeed our God does give us more than we can handle so that we can turn it to Him and see His mercy and grace! Amen, amen, amen! Hugs and prayers to you! xo Amanda
