One thing I’ve enjoyed so much about this year has been the opportunity to create cozy living spaces throughout my home. After wrapping up the living room upgrades last winter, I was able to move on to other rooms in the house that haven’t received much attention.
We’re fortunate to have a master and a guest bedroom in our home. Both of those rooms are now much cozier than they were this time last year!
Allow me to let you in on a secret. The first step in creating comfortable spaces – in my opinion – is to clear the clutter. Bedrooms often become cluttered with clothes (both in season and out of season), laundry, blankets and lots of other things that might not even belong in there!
One thing that has always been helpful in our master bedroom is to have a dedicated laundry basket. This one lives in the master bedroom and holds all of my husband’s clothes that are in that “in between” stage (not clean enough to be folded in the drawer but also not dirty enough to be washed – you know what I’m talking about).
Even if the clothes don’t make it in the basket, I can scoop them up off the floor and easily dump them in there, instantly tidying up the room!
This laundry basket from Lifewit would be a perfect addition to any bedroom. It’s available on Amazon Prime and comes in three pretty stripe patterns! My sister uses a similar one to corral stuffed animals in her boys’ play room.
Another game changer is to effectively use the storage areas in your home that aren’t easily accessible. Use the areas under your beds or at the tops of closets to store out of season clothes, extra blankets and seasonal pillows. Save the prime real estate for things you reach for frequently – but stash those out of season or extra things neatly out of sight.
You can grab a set of three large storage bags (for $20!) on Amazon that are perfect for this task! These come with a clear window so that you can see exactly what you’re looking for when you need it.
Organizing out of season clothes, establishing a set laundry hamper and moving piles of extra blankets into a proper storage area are all things that are part of giving everything a place, which I believe is the first step toward a peaceful and cozy home.
Once you’ve cleared the clutter, you have a clean surface to add cozy elements like photos, candles and fresh flowers!
