My Honest Review Of Bath Fitter: Bathroom Renovation Update

I’m excited to share with you my honest review of Bath Fitter! After living in this house almost 10 years, it was time to update the original 1970’s tub/shower in the hall bathroom.

We used Bath Fitter Upstate, but they have locations all over the US and Canada. I am not sponsored by Bath Fitter and you can trust that my review is completely honest. Let’s jump into the pros and cons, and then I’ll share my overall review at the end.

(Before: the 1970’s tub with the weird wood/unsealed overlay from the people who flipped our house before we bought it)

Pros:

  • They were able to complete the demo and installation in one day. The Bath Fitter employee arrived before 8 AM and was finished before 2 PM on the same day!
  • The Bath Fitter employee who did our demo and installation was very professional. He covered the flooring from our front door all the way to the bathroom, covered all the additional surfaces in the bathroom, and left absolutely no mess behind.
  • We had the walls painted before the demo/installation, and there was no damage at all to the rest of the bathroom. I didn’t have to touch up any of the paint!
  • The finished product is beautiful! It looks exactly as promised.
  • The tub/shower is very easy to clean. There are specific products that must be used on the surfaces, but they are mainstream, name brand cleaning products that I already had on hand. A simple spray of the cleaner and a wipe with a soft cloth easily removes soap scum and dirt.

(During the Bath Fitter installation)

Cons:

  • Cost. We felt like the cost was really high – although possibly worth it, based on the pros I listed above. We paid over $7,300 for the basic shower/tub with curved shower curtain and one shelf unit.
  • Sales process: There are no prices on the website. During the consultation where you pick out the design and features you want, they do not list any prices. Once you receive your “personalized quote,” only a grand total price is listed at the bottom. There’s no way to know if one choice you made caused the price to jump thousands of dollars.
  • At least for me, the interactions we had with their sales people felt a lot like buying a car – which is something I hate. I already knew what I wanted and didn’t need to be convinced that something was a good choice. Even after we made our final selections, the sales person was still in sales mode as he tried to pitch the company and its benefits over and over. We get it. 🙂

Things to know/Tips:

  • Any meeting you have with a sales person will take at least an hour (in our experience). Plan for an hour with both the initial sales visit in your home and the follow up visit where they finalize the details.
  • Don’t be afraid to ask for modifications to your quote. I went back and forth with our sales person over email, asking for modified quotes as I tried to figure out how to lower the bottom line. I saved over $2,000 by switching from a glass shower door to a curved curtain rod.
  • Don’t be afraid to ask “will that change the price?” when the sales person suggests a different option for one of the features. A couple hundred dollars is a big deal to me!

(After: The finished tub and shower!)

Overall, I’m very happy that we were able to use Bath Fitter for this renovation. It was the best solution for us as non-DIY’ers. The contractor we used for parts of the initial bathroom reno when we updated the floors (see that project here) was not available for this job and we were hesitant to work with an unknown small business contractor.

I really love the finished edges of the shower walls against the drywall. It looks really nice.

My review in one sentence: We are very happy with the speed in which the project was completed, the professionalism of their employees and the finished product.

When you see that $7,300 price tag, please understand that we are praising the Lord for providing the money to pay that invoice.

Paul ran literally hundreds of miles on lacrosse fields across the Southeast to allow us to do this project. His second job as a sports official provides for these “extra” projects that are ultimately grace gifts from God’s hands.

As the hymn says, “All I have needed, thy hand hath provided. Great is thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!”

“In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through him who strengthens me. And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4

Everything we have is made possible because of Jesus – and He is always enough.

I did some other decor related updates in this bathroom that you can see here. I love how it turned out and I can’t wait for you to see it!

Have you used or considered Bath Fitter? I would love to know what your experience was like, so let me know in the comments.

  1. Thank you for this excellent review. The thing I liked the most was that your layout is identical to mine including exactly where the toilet and door are. You also went with the same fittings and the plain finish that I am going for. And the curved shower rod. So I can now 100% image what mine will look like. The salesperson was totally transparent re the prices, everything was broken down, and the price was one third of a full remodel or new tub etc. So I hope I will be happy like you are!

    1. I know you’re joking, and it’s a funny question! 🙂 However, it’s true that everything we have is a gift from God. We may not acknowledge it, but that doesn’t change the truth. One of the greatest joys for me as a follower of Jesus is seeing Him at work in my life, providing for my needs and giving me gifts that I do not deserve. Even if you don’t believe in or follow Jesus, all the good things in your life are from Him. He loves you and wants to draw near to you. I love the Bible verse that says “For he causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.” (Matthew 5:45). In the area where the Bible was written, both sun and rain were considered blessings. So this verse is saying that God’s goodness and blessing comes even to people who are not followers of Jesus. If that describes you, I hope you’ll draw near to a God who loves you! Thanks for your comment, it made me think! 🙂

  2. Thank you so much for posting your experience! I haven’t found many positive reviews online. I just signed a contract with Bath Fitters to convert a tub to shower with grab bars for my aging parents. I am so nervous!! It is very expensive but the ease of maintenance and no grout is why I contacted them over a standard tile remodel. I hope it does not crack or leak like the other reviews I have seen.

  3. Thank you for such a useful review! Curious to know how the shower head performs? Mine is vintage with fantastic pressure and I fear the newer trickle down models will be a buzz kill😁

  4. Hello, I just wanted say thank you for your review and it does help me with your information. I am at the crossroad, and cannot make the decision yet after having had the consultation with the sales person yesterday. Will need to pray for God’s divine guidance. Was it white culture marble that you selected?

  5. I am having my bathtub converted to a shower tomorrow 3/15/2024 I am kind of hesitate but I am going ahead with the it. Should I be worried

  6. That price seems like a real ripoff. I completely gutted to bare bones my master bath, which is large. Soaker tub, 16″ tiled walls/floor, new everything (including all new plumbing) and even with a $2,500 double sink vanity, I paid $15k total. Over $7k for just the shower? Their claims of being affordable sound like anything but.

    1. I’ve worked for Bath Fitter and remodeled Bathrooms professionally.

Remodeling a bathroom correctly makes more sense than covering up your old bathtub and walls.

Considering what Bath Fitter charges, the savings don’t add up either. You’re putting a band aid over a problem.

  7. We have our bathroom being done today and one guy arrived before 9:00 a.m. and he is almost completed the job and it’s 9:06 p.m.!!!! Don’t believe the one day job, so disappointed. On the bright side, our bathroom does look a whole lot better but it’s a stressful process.

  8. Thank you so much for your review! We just had Bath Fitter in North Carolina/Virginia area do our tub liner and shower walls this week (Sept/Oct 2023) to replace our 1976 mustard yellow tub. I had a very similar experience to yours! I was very disappointed in the high cost of a bit over $10,000 on the estimate! The salesman, in his long two-hour pitch, gave us a “discount of 15%”, final price of $8,600, if we signed that same day. The bottom line had only the price of $8,600, and was not itemized, which I complained about later. We did not have a shower door, but instead hung a shower curtain because I figured it was cheaper. They charged $120 for their shower curtain rod, so I did not purchase theirs (it was not itemized – I had to ask what they were charging for it).

They measured for the tub liner and 3 weeks later came with the tub liner, but it didn’t fit the first time. They remeasured, left the job unfinished, and brought another tub liner several weeks after that, and they forgot to bring the multi-shelf caddy. The tub liner fit the second time. It looks great, but I told them to please just deduct the multi-shelf caddy price since they forgot to bring it, so they did a change order and deducted $215 from the final price. A bit high for a shower caddy, I think. The tub liner does look good, but the price is way, way TOO high. I’ve had a few sleepless nights wondering if I did the right thing by using their services because of the cost. We will have to do the rest of the bathroom ourselves and watch our pennies since we spent so much on Bath Fitter’s tub liner. Again, thank you for leaving your review so I know my experience was similar.

  9. I found your blog because we just signed up to get a new bath surround with Bath Fitter. How do you like it, over a year later?

We’re keeping our old tub and replacing the old surround, which is in really bad shape! We have an odd shape so can’t use pre-fab surrounds! It seems like a good solution for us.

  10. For $7,300 you could have had the old tub removed. A new Fiberglass, Vickrell or comparable tub surround is as little as $1,000 and looks great. A new shower valve and installation and your done. You’ve got brand new all the way. Not a band-aid glued over the top of your old walls and bathtub. Research bath fitters customer satisfaction.

    1. Thanks for your input! They did actually remove the old tub, and they completely replaced and upgraded the entire shower plumbing system. This is a Bath Fitter customer review, and a year later we still love it. 🙂

      1. Bath fitter places a shell over the original tub, they don’t remove the original one. I know, I worked for bath fitter for about 8 months.

  11. Looks beautiful, Whitney! It’s great that it’s easy to clean, too. Continuing to keep you all in our prayers during your adoption journey 🙂

  12. It is perfectly beautiful, Whitney. What a good, hard working husband you have. And you always remember to give the credit to God, who takes care of all our needs.

  13. Wow it looks amazing!! It looks like it would be so much easier to clean as well! (That is my top priority with bathrooms, haha. I hate grout!)

  14. 👋🏻Hi Whitney
My parents used bath fitter here in Canada for one of their bathrooms and it looked terrific and still does😃👍

Congratulations on one more step towards adopting- you guys must be so excited 💛💛🙏🙏🙏😃😃😃😃

  15. Everything looks great!!! Home projects have gotten so expensive. And things like this are hard to DIY if you aren’t a pro or are hoping for a quick turn around. It sounds like you had a great experience. One step closer 🙂

  16. Whitney, we just had ours done as well. Bath fitters out of Dayton, OH. and we love it. We had the old tub taken out and a walk in shower for us old folks put in. Ours dated back to 1976 and it was Avocado green and I couldn’t get init without hand rails to steady myself because of my knees. And yes it was even more expense than yours ($10,400) we had the shower door installed and it did raise the price considerably, but was so worth it. Like you it wasn’t for cosmetic reasons🙂 I will send you a pic of ours. We loved our consultant and the installer was top notched, he truly knew his stuff, he came in at 8 and was done by 4:30. He had to cut out the old shower and create the shower head installation before putting ours in. I’ve wanted this done for the past 20 years and I couldn’t be happier. Like you it was through the grace of God we were able to get it done.
