Finding Motivation In The Closet

Finding Motivation to Look Good For Your Man

Last week’s post on Kate Middleton and having it all together was received so well by all of you. It made my heart glad, because striving for excellence is something I hold very dear to my heart. Every area of my life needs constant improvement. That realization motivates me – it doesn’t discourage me. As a Christian, I’m always on the journey towards Christ-likeness. That’s a journey that impacts every other area of my life and it won’t end until I reach Heaven. As a woman, I’m on the journey to improve as a wife and homemaker.

One area of my life that takes effort constantly is the way I dress. I love putting on makeup and fixing my hair, but when it comes to choosing an outfit, I always sigh a little. Shopping for clothes isn’t one of my favorite things to do (I’ll grocery shop and walk around HomeGoods for hours before I shop for clothes), so I don’t have an awesome wardrobe to choose from. I love comfortable clothes and could live in my pj’s (with hair and makeup done) for several days out of the week.

Having to leave the house for work and errands puts a damper on my pj’s for days dream. I also live with a man – and he deserves more than a wife in her favorite pj’s from Forever 21 (they’re sooo comfy y’all). That’s my true motivation for taking my outfit game to the next level.

Someone made a comment on last week’s post that resonated in my heart as well:

“I don’t always try to look my best or do my best – but when I do, my husband appreciates it. This inspires me to do better!”

The woman of Proverbs 31 “does [her husband] good and not harm all the days of her life (v.12).” I think that “doing him good” includes looking nice for him! Going back to my closet struggles – if you don’t know where to start, hit Pinterest! I got on last week and found some inspiration for a few new outfits using what I had in my closet. Here’s one that I came up with, inspired by the outfits here and here.

Skirt, Top & Shoes: Target / Scarf: Cents of Style

Sometimes I send my husband a selfie like that one, especially if he’s working a later shift and I won’t see him until late in the evening. I want him to know I dress for him, not for the people at work or my Instagram followers. 🙂

  1. I love that idea that you dress for your husband….I definitely think that is part of our “job” to keep ourselves looking presentable for our man. Great job pulling this outfit together.

  2. You always look darling so I had no idea that picking out outfits wasn’t your favorite thing. You hide it well 🙂 I think that it’s important to know what you like – colors, styles, comfort level, etc. and select outfits that you feel good in. The outfit you pictured is super inspiring – pattern mixing, cute accessories and lots of color. Good for you for stepping outside your comfort zone and styling cute outfits. I’m sure Paul appreciates it and you’re inspiring to others 🙂 I’m going to have to go and check out F21 pjs – I’ve shopped their accessories for years, but have never even peeked at their pj section.

    1. Well thanks, friend! I’ve learned a lot from my sister over the years. Outfits are her forte. 🙂 The F21 pj’s I’m currently in love with are a pants/tank set made out of the softest, most lightweight material ever. I think it was $8.99 for the set!

  3. I am glad to hear that I’m not the only woman out there who would rather shop for my home and my pantry than for clothes! However, I’m going to have to spend some time this summer getting a few new things since my post-baby shape is not fitting in last summer’s clothes.

  4. I have struggled along those lines as well Whitney. But I have tried watching other ladies who dress well and following some of their examples. Now I ask my Daughter and Daughter in Law for help as both are very stylish. They have finally convinced me to add some coral to my wardrobe….a color I alway shy away from. But I realized that if I ask for their help, then I should take their advice and I have been happily surprised!

    1. You’re so sweet! I’m sure your husband appreciates your efforts to look good! 🙂 Do you follow Rhoda from Southern Hospitality Blog? She does a really nice fashion post on Wednesdays that you might enjoyl

      1. Yes Whitney I do read Rhoda’s blog and I have enjoyed her fashion posts. I think sometimes we need to step out of our comfort zones…which is very hard for me!! I am the person who gets the same meal at the restaurant every time I go out to eat!!lol

  5. Your not alone in the pjs department. If I’m not in pjs I’m in yoga pants or workout clothes. I’ve been married 28 years so hubs comments, “sure, once in awhile it would be nice to see you in something other than what you wear, but it is you and I love you.” I know sappy…I do dress for work, but as soon as I am home, the work clothes are off, and the comfortable clothes are on.

    1. I know my husband loves me for who I am – but I still think it’s important to honor him and give him my best, no matter how long we’ve been together. Give him a treat and wear something amazing! 🙂
