5 Things On Friday {August’s Vacation Highlights}

Last weekend was a big event in my family – it was the first time we’ve all been on vacation together with our spouses! I’m thankful that I’m able to see my family often, but going away on vacation with everyone was so special. Without a doubt, #hamfamvacay17 was a huge success! (My maiden name is Cunningham…hence “ham fam…”)

Here are 5 highlights from our long weekend in Pigeon Forge!

1// Spending the morning in downtown Gatlinburg – one of my favorite places that holds a lifetime of good memories!

2// The Solar Eclipse! I didn’t buy into the hype, but it was pretty incredible to see how dark and evening-like it became (see the picture below). The resort where we stayed threw a huge party and served chocolate Krispy Kreme donuts, Moon Pies, Sun Chips and Chick Fil A nuggets – because in the South, no party is complete without CFA nuggets. The eclipse fell on Alli’s birthday, so my Mom made an eclipse cake with watermelon and cantaloupe! Isn’t that so cute?!

3// Baby Snuggles! My sister’s twins are completely irresistible!

4// Family Time (and good food)

top right photo is my Dad, Paul (pushing the double stroller with the twins), my sister Alli, her husband Andrew, my Mom and me!

5// Time with this guy! We have been so blessed this year – this was our third trip since March! After several years of not getting away for any vacation, it’s been so nice to have a few days here and there to get away together.

If you’ve never been to Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, you need to go! Not only is it beautiful, there is SO much to do. We chose to just hang out and enjoy the pool, but there are so many fun things to see and do in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. I can’t wait to go back again!

Happy Friday!

  1. What a fun getaway with your family! I’m glad you got to all be together in one of your favorite spots. I’m sure it was so sweet to snuggle the babies and enjoy time off. Have you ever blogged about your favorite things to do in Gatlinburg?

    1. That’s a great idea – I don’t think I’ve ever blogged about Gatlinburg! We really haven’t been there since before I started blogging. Maybe I should get Paul to take me back so we can do all the attractions and get good pictures! 🙂

  2. Fun vacation hashtag! Gatlinburg looks like a lot of fun. It’s pretty far from here, but if I’m ever in the neighborhood I’ll be sure to go! How fun the eclipse fell over your vacation, too! It was at 98% totality here, and I had fun dressing up for the occasion (eclipse nails were a must!). The nighttime bugs got really loud during the darkness, and a few birds returned to their trees. Poor nature got confused! Haha! 😉

      1. In college, our choir tour passed through Branson on a bus. We only got to see theaters and such, so it was kind of a bummer. Haha! I’d love to actually stop and walk around. 🙂

  3. What a fun trip! That eclipse cake cracked me up, genius! I didn’t buy too much into the hype either but I did try and do some stuff with the girls since it was my one shot to do that :P. Happy Friday!
