This week I had to shop at more than one store in order to get what I needed. Often it’s easy to go over budget when you shop in multiple locations, but going with a list and keeping track of how much you spend at each place will help with that. Watch my video below to see what I got! I also share a few tips for getting the most bang for your buck when shopping the sales.
I need your help! My husband is doing a Crossfit-type workout and diet routine and his meal restrictions are majorly cramping my menu planning and budgeting. He’s basically on the Paleo diet (no excess carbohydrates, grains, gluten, processed foods or sugars). It’s a huge change from his normal way of eating, and being a pretty picky eater he’s struggling to find things he likes in this plan. Don’t ask me why he did this, I don’t know. Ha. If you have any tips for feeding a Paleo eater on a small budget, I want them!
Here’s what I came up with for our meals this week – I’m not eating Paleo so parts of the menu are just for me.
On The Menu
Breakfast:
- Cereal
- Strawberries, Bananas and Canteloupe
- Eggs and Bacon
- Peanut Butter Toast
Lunch:
- Leftovers
- Deli Sandwiches/Chips/Fruit
- Rotisserie Chicken/White Rice
Supper:
- Steak Lovers Meatloaf/Garlic Green Beans (I made the meatloaf last week for the first time and we LOVED it)
- Turkey Meatballs with Pasta Sauce/Corn
- BBQ Chicken Legs/Garlic Green Beans
- Taco Casserole/Mexican Rice/Corn
- Pan Roasted Tilapia with Colored Peppers
- Ground Turkey with Onions & Spinach
- Date Night! 🙂

This is my favorite breakfast / snack. It’s healthy, paleo, gluten-free, super easy, and not expensive for a batch!

{Just a note, the texture takes a time or two to get used to. As a picky eater, I know that’s sometimes an issue!}
Good luck on your menu search! 🙂
Thanks, Megan! I’ll put that on my Pinterest board to try!
Crossfit! It always sounds so intense, but good on your husband! I wish I had good advice for paleo…. I always get so thrown off when something cramps my usual routine (like menu ideas). Taco casserole sounds yummy! If we could eat Mexican food every day, we would. (I don’t know what’s stopping us, come to think of it…).
It IS intense. Paul asked me yesterday if I wanted to come with him for his workout and I laughed. No thanks! 🙂 The taco casserole is for me – I’ll eat on that a couple days while he chews on his plain chicken and white rice. Haha! And yes, it’s totally throwing off my shopping and menu planning. Ugh. Oh well!
I always love finding a good deal on salad dressing. I’m no help with the paleo tips… I don’t trust any diet that asks you to quit eating cheese 🙂 Maybe Pinterest will have some inspirational menu ideas??
Me too, Whitney! I’m not about to give up dairy! We tried our first Pinterest Paleo recipe tonight and it was a success (of course mine was topped with cheese…). 🙂
I’m excited to try the Steak Lovers Meatloaf. Have fun on Date Night!
If you like the taste of A-1 sauce, you’ll love it! My husband said it really did taste like steak.
My friends are paleo, and they eat a lot of hardboiled eggs! It helps them get protein to stay fuller longer without having the extra cost of meat! 🙂
Thanks, Beth Ann! I have plenty of eggs. Making some today!
Bless your heart Whitney! I have some younger friends who have been bitten by the cross fit bug so I understand your quandry with diet. As an old nurse, I guess I am troubled by these diet crazes that come and go. As Paul says, Moderation in everything is the best way to live life.( and a life without carbs would make me very sad!!). I do think pinterest has several boards that feature paleo meal ideas so you might find some tips there. Good Luck!!
Thanks for your sympathy! 🙂 I agree, I can’t live without some carbs and dairy! I’m hoping this will just help him to cut down on the processed foods and learn to enjoy fruits and veggies more. He tried avocado today and that did not go well. 🙂
