The Highlights

Spring is a busy #RefereeWifeLife season. For Paul it means lots of travel and busy weeks with refereeing college lacrosse. For me it means extra laundry, balancing different schedules, and an occasional road trip!

I came along for a game in Wise, Virginia and enjoyed the mountain views coming and going. I always find something to do before the game (usually shopping) and show up around halftime.

Props to the parents who sit in 40 degree weather and listen to 40 girls scream for 2 hours. Ha! This field has parking just up the hill where you can view the game from the warmth of the car, which I love.

We got to visit with my sister and her family a little bit on this travel day, too! Paul is definitely the favorite – and showing up with donuts never hurts your uncle approval rating. 🙂

Early this month I made a quick trip to Tennessee and squeezed in lunch with my parents, shopping with my mom and sister, supper and fun with my nephews, church with the family and a delicious Sunday lunch at my sister’s house.

Gigi and her cute little blonde boys! They sit with my mom while my sister plays the piano for church.

When I announced that it was time for me to head home, the door was blocked “so you can’t leave, Auntie!” If that doesn’t just melt your heart, I don’t know what will. ❤

I prepared and filed our taxes this month – it’s always such a good feeling to have that done, even when the bottom line isn’t in our favor. I love paperwork, filing and organizing, so for the most part this task is right up my alley. 🙂

Adoption Update

We are making progress toward our approval. The home study process has been completed on our end – we’ve gone through all the home inspections, interviews and follow up questions.

Right now we’re just waiting on the final approval from the Department of Social Services before they can begin showing our home study (the document that tells them who we are/what kind of home we have) to the case workers who are looking for families for the children in their care.

We’re using this waiting time to think, study, pray, and talk through as much of our unknown “jump into parenting with both feet” future as we can. I’m really thankful for this time that God is using in both of our hearts to draw us closer to him as we wait!

This month I finished listening to Love Centered Parenting (on Audible): I’m a big fan of Crystal Paine, and this book is so good. Her emphasis on leaning in and loving instead of preaching a bunch of mini-sermons is something that I hope to apply to my future parenting and my other present relationships!

From This Month’s Bible Reading

In my God shot journal for this month, one of the entries says “God’s timing is perfect, even when it doesn’t make sense, because His end goal is my heart.” I have been so struck by God’s big picture plan for his people.

Hundreds of years passed between the time that Abraham followed God and went to an unknown land until the Israelites were settled in the land God promised to Abraham. Lots of hard things happened in between, but God was always at work revealing his love, mercy, goodness and power.

The Lord had his heart set on you and chose you, not because you were more numerous than all peoples, for you were the fewest of all peoples. But because the Lord loved you and kept the oath he swore to your ancestors, he brought you out with a strong hand and redeemed you from the place of slavery, from the power of Pharaoh king of Egypt. -Deuteronomy 7:7-8

I’m so thankful that God wants to work in my heart every day, revealing those same things to me, even on the days when nothing in my physical world changes. If you’re stuck or searching for direction in your life, get into God’s Word every day. You’ll find something even greater – the peace of God that passes understanding.

Because he has his heart set on me, I will deliver him; I will protect him because he knows my name. -Psalm 91:14

  1. What a fun month!! I’m glad you’re able to tag along for some out of town adventures with Paul and see family along the way. I always enjoy shopping in a new city.

  2. I love these family pictures and updates. I have been wondering about your adoption plans. It sounds like things are going slowly but surely.
YOU LIKE PAPERWORK??? I shouldn’t be surprised. I wish you live near me because I would hire you. I detest paper work and phone calls.
    Happy April, Whitney.

    1. Yes, I really do like it! I guess it makes sense, as I’m an office administrator and have worked those kinds of jobs all my adult life. I would much rather do that than work in sales or something where I’m on my feet all day. 🙂
