Month in Review: August 2021

August was a lopsided month – I had a full weekend of fun with my mom and sister, but the rest of the month was just full of busy things. You know how that can be!

The first week of the month, I was still in Olympics mode. I watched as much of the coverage as I could and enjoyed it all so much!

Our oven saga continues – and now we’re in the process of shopping for a new one. The cost of the part needed to fix our oven isn’t worth the risk on a nearly 10 year old appliance. I’m on the hunt and I’m thankful that I can take my time to find a good deal, since the stove top on our current oven still works.

Every once and a while I let myself order lunch from Panera on a work day. I have their free coffee subscription, so I can order lunch along with my coffee. It’s so nice to pick it up on the way to work, enjoy a coffee in the morning and a delicious salad at lunch! My two favorites currently are the green goddess cobb salad and the Mediterranean bowl.

As I mentioned, the highlight of August was our weekend trip to celebrate my sister’s birthday. You can read all about where we stayed, what we ate and where we shopped here!

Although summer is my least favorite season, I do love how our yard looks this time of year. I’ve also enjoyed my watermelon themed door by the carport!

We replaced the hardware on our front doors this summer and I still can’t get over what an upgrade it is! Scroll down on this post to see what it used to look like.

I love shopping on Dayspring’s website, and their annual customer appreciation sale started this week! This is a great time to pick up Christmas gifts or some of their lovely cards. Here are a few of my favorites from their site.

This sitewide sale will run from August 23rd through September 6th. You can get 25% off almost everything with code THANKYOU.

Here’s one of my favorite passages from this month’s Bible reading:

“He established a testimony in Jacob and set up a law in Israel, which he commanded our ancestors to teach to their children so that a future generation — children yet to be born — might know. They were to rise and tell their children so that they might put their confidence in God and not forget God’s works.” Psalm 78:6-7

I don’t have to wait until God does something “miraculous” for me before I start praising Him. God is just as worthy of my praise when I’m standing at the bottom of the mountain looking up as He is when I’m standing on the other side of it!

Whatever mountain you face today, wherever you are in the climb, God is worthy to be trusted and God is worthy to be praised. Look back at what He has done for you. Look back at who He says He is in Scripture. Put your confidence in the God of Jacob and help someone else do the same.

  1. I’m sorry that your oven issue has turned into a bigger deal. Isn’t it crazy that appliance are not really made to be repaired these days?? Anytime we’ve had an issue it seems that it is almost the same price to buy a whole new one. I love my smooth top stove – it’s so easy to clean. I hope you find a great deal on one that you love 🙂

    1. We have been fortunate that this is the first appliance we’ve had to replace since we moved in this house almost 9 years ago, so I can’t complain. I’m excited to hopefully upgrade and to even just choose the oven I want. ☺️

  2. Thanks for heads up about the Dayspring sale. I bought a mug that says “Some glad morningf I will fly away” because my neighbor recently sang that at my husband’s Celebration of Life. It will be good way to remember that day. I, also, ordered a cute pack of greeting cards.

Happy September…seems impossible that fall is upon us!

  3. I love your quote: “God is just as worthy of my praise when I’m standing at the bottom of the mountain looking up as He is when I’m standing on the other side of it!” So good to remember. The door looks great and it is truly amazing how small changes can make such a big difference! About your hunt for a new stove, maybe you have already found this out, but in-stock appliances are in VERY short supply due to Covid and manufacturing and worker shortages. We have been told it can take months to actually get your appliance once you order it! Not trying to discourage, just wanted to share that in case you hadn’t gotten to that point yet so you are prepared!

  4. A hardware upgrade is on our list of projects for September. We recently did the hardware on the storm door and that made such a difference – now we just need the front door looking just as spiffy. And upgraded! I love the color of your door, too!!
